Microscopic and optical tests
Light microscopy

This work includes, for instance, the analysis of micro-sections, thin sections or fracture planes with reflected light, transmitted light, polarized light, dark field, bright field and differential interference contrast (DIC) for the 3D representation of surfaces. In addition, µ areas with excited fluorescence can be shown, 3D photographic equipment is available that allows improved depth of focus and video equipment is available for the acquisition of moving objects in the micro range and macro range. Analysis is made with software for digital image analysis.
Beside various stationary light microscopes (Olympus BX61, BH2, SZ9) we also have a mobile digital microscope (HIROX KH7700) and a confocal white light microscope (NanoFocus) for roughness measurements (line and surface).
Additionally, we can perform analyses for determining contact angles of surfaces and liquids, surface tension, interfacial tension, surface energy, roll-off angle (e.g. Lotus effect), wetting behaviour ("wetting envelopes"), and the polar and disperse (nonpolar) components of the surface energy of solid bodies and liquids.
The equipment comprises
- Multi dosing system, 3-fold standard liquids
- Single dosing system for special liquids
- Peltier temperature chamber (-30°C to +160°C)
- Tilting table (roll-off angle)
- Absorption/reflection
- Transparency
- Whiteness and yellowness
- Gloss, Haze
