Thermoplastics can come into contact with various liquids and chemicals during use.
Long-term stability of plastics against the attack of process media is a quality criterion for many applications. Automobile manufacturers, such as VW (VW 50133 or TL 52682) or Daimler (DBL 5406, DBL 5408), require hot storage in engine oil or glycol mixtures.
The test is always carried out in compliance with the specifications. Mechanical tests are performed in most cases after component aging. Determinations of resistance to environmental stress cracking (ESC) (DIN EN ISO 22088-3; bent strip method) are also carried out in various test solutions.
