Thermal and physical tests

Thermal properties

Thermoplastics can be processed after heating. The result is that most of the plastic materials have a limited heat stability.

The following thermal properties can be determined:
  • Melting point and/or glass transition temperature (measured in DSC)
  • Temperature of deflection under load (HDT/A or HDT/B)
  • Vicat softening temperature (VST/A or VST/B)
  • Thermal conductivity (LFA, measured with LFA 447 Nanoflash made by Netzsch)
The shrinkage behaviour in injection moulding is particularly important for the tool design. This behaviour depends, among other things, on the processing conditions. The test is made in accordance with DIN EN ISO 294-4 with 60 mm x 60 mm x 2 mm sample plates.

The hot storage temperature is determined in accordance with DIN 53497 specifically for vendor parts on the automobile sector to verify the dimensional accuracy of the components.
